Sun shining and goals galore

2012 Yellow. MD2. Vs AM Soccer (A)

Goals rained in at Duffus Park as the sun shone hard and ‘Colts shared 14 goals with our hosts.

The shared goal count doesn’t start to tell the tale of a very topsy turvy match.

AMS started much the brighter and threatened to put the match well out of sight of Colts with some fine controlled football and quick breaks which had them 4 clear without reply and the shell shocked Colts really had to dig deep into the mental reserves to avoid the possibility a real humbling. A rare first half break out and a smart finish from Guthrie across the AMS keeper reduced the deficit just before the break and gave the young Muchty squad a little hope to cling onto.

Playing down the slope in the second half Colts looked to have taken on the half time message that this game was not gone and applied a sustained period of pressure on the AM rearguard.. the introduction of Urquhart seemed to have sparked something, however in the blink of an eye the gap was stretched further again as the hosts played a finely threaded pass through the middle of the park and again ‘keeper brown was beaten.

Two quick fire goals from hard working Clunie reduced the deficit. The first a smart left footed finish on the turn inside the box and the second a quickly taken throw in from Shepherd and a composed finish… was the comeback on?

We’ll in all honesty no looked the most probable answer to that when the hosts replied with 2 more goals if their own.

With 4 in it and time running out it looked like damage limitation was the name of the game but the determined Colts squad had other ideas..

Urquhart, Lyon, Clunie and Nkoholongu were still buzzing around the middle of the park and closing things down despite the intense heat and this seemed to unsettle AMS despite their commanding lead and very obvious ability. 3 further goals from Guthrie put a more respectable spin on the score line and gave the Colts a bit of a boost… their tails were up and they sensed an opportunity… but surely it was too late…… but this was their ‘Barcelona 99… their Istanbul 05’…… with literally the last kick of the game Guthrie secured his 5th and a memento fight back was complete…

True hard work and determination was the winner against arguably the best footballing team that this squad may encounter this session of games…

A rollercoaster of a match for all concerned..
