On Tuesday 13th Auchtermuchty Bellvue Colts welcomed Raith Rovers (Stars) to Low Road Park. It was the second time the youths from Auchtermuchty had faced a side from Raith Rovers in 4 days after their game in Kirkcaldy on Saturday.
Colts were a changed side with various squad members dropping in and out. We welcomed William Burton from the 2011's in goal, replacing Matheson who is on holiday. Josh Simpson and Evie Brown returned to the defence. Saturdays injury to Svetoslavov was not as serious as first feared and he started from the bench. Hamish Wilson started the game for the first time.
Squad: Burton, Brown, Simpson, Bayne, Wilson, Crawford, Paton, Hynd, McIvor, Svetoslavov
Muchty started on the front foot and did a lot of the early pressing with some neat passing through the zones. Rovers were the first to threaten though with a couple of early chances, with Burton saving one well. However, it was Colts who opened the scoring when a short pass from the Rovers defence was seized upon by Rylie Paton who hit a sweet first time shot from outside the box past the diving keeper.
Colts weren't getting it all their own way though and Rovers soon got themselves on the scoresheet with a break out of defence from No 27 who took it past 2 Colts players and played a nice shot in the far corner. They quickly scored again with some good pressing, forcing the Colts defence in to a mistake that lead to some quick passing and a neat finish.
The introduction of Svetoslavov reaped instant rewards when after receiving the ball from Brown, he turned his marker with his first touches of the match and smashed an exquisite shot from just inside the Rovers half. Burton was then called in to action, tipping a long range Rovers effort over the bar. Bayne was impressive in midfield with some neat passing as well as some good running and defensive tackling. Hynd came on for Paton and was unlucky not to score when her shot came back off the post. Crawford was having a great half with some great link up play with the midfield as well as tireless running and being vocal when looking to receive the ball.
In to the second half Simpson, now playing in the midfield had a shot at goal which went in, although Crawford had a claim on it (video replays appear inconclusive, so we will let them sort it out :-) ). Svetoslavov was needing no invitation to shoot and saw an effort crack off the crossbar before adding another goal to his tally.
McIvor, playing in a more defensive role got on the scoresheet, receiving a short corner and driving in to the box with a shot in to the corner. Rovers themselves scored some more goals and it was Svetoslavov who finished the scoring with his third of the match.
It was a great game for the neutral with some great passing and pressing from both teams as the game swung from end to end. For Colts it was a much improved performance after a tough game on the Saturday and the coaching team were very happy with how everybody played both individually and as a team.
