Auchtermuchty dig deep after early set back

The youths from Auchtermuchty made the trip down to Pittenweem for their third football match of the season, as they looked to keep up the momentum from their game the previous week in Cupar.

Squad: Burton, Grieve, Brown, Tavener, Shek, Hynd, Lyon, Ness, MacDougall, McIver, Passmore, Redhead, Bayne

Pittenweem kicked off and immediately had the ball in the net. A mix up in the Colts defence allowed the Pittenweem striker to place a low shot in to the corner of the net. A nightmare of a start for Auchtermuchty. The next few minutes were a bit nervous for Muchty as passing moves began to break down as the youngsters perhaps feared losing more early goals.

However, the nervousness didn't last long with some composed defending and an excellent clearance from the out rushing Burton in goal inspiring confidence throughout the rest of the team. Colts started to put together some neat attacking moves, with Passmore's pace being a threat, earning a couple of free kicks higher up the pitch. Auchtermuchty came close to getting back on terms when Tavener drove forward and struck a sweet low shot from distance, only to see it hit the post and rebound to safety. Colts were starting to turn the screw and it was an excellent stop by the Pittenweem keeper from a rasping close range shot which kept his clean sheet in tact.

It was Passmore who managed to breach the Pittenweem goal when his shot squirmed under the goal keeper. Muchty sensed there were more goals to be had and went close with Shek and Tavener again going close, with some good 'keeping from Pittenweem and their defence standing firm.

The second half got underway and it was Muchty who started on the front foot. Tavener in midfield, after breaking up another Pittenweem attack strode forward and released a shot which just went narrowly wide. Pittenweem started to get forward themselves and forced a couple of corners, with the Colts defence standing firm. It was Colts who made the breakthrough though with Shek turning the ball in from close range. Muchty began to make their stamp on the game with a number of passing moves creating chances.

After some more pressure from Colts brought a number of corners, it was Grieve who got his name on the score sheet. After swinging in a corner, he picked up a clearance out on the right, took a touch and curled an effort in to the top corner - a great goal for the spectator and a deserved first goal of the season for one of Colts most consistent players this year. Hynd then game close to adding another but her first time shot from a cross field pass went narrowly over.

With the game drawing to a close Pittenweem forced a great save from Butler as they started to put pressure on the Muchty back line. Pittenweem gave away a free kick deep in the Colts half, and with their players pushing to try and get back in the game, a long freekick from Grieve over the top found Passmore who ran in on goal to score.

The final whistle game and that wrapped up a great performance from the Colts. Their was a lot of nice passing moves which hadn't been evident in recent weeks and the players were pushing til the very end of the game.

Burton was voted player of the match from the Pittenweem players.

It was a very competitive game and we would like to thank the referee and Pittenweem and wish them both well for the season ahead.

The next football match for the 2010's is in Auchtermuchty on Saturday 11 September with a 10am kick off.
