A windy day at Methil as Muchty take on East Fife

There was a chill in the air and a strong wind gusting over the pitch as Muchty traveled to Methil to take on East Fife on the grass pitches outside the New Bayview stadium.

Squad: Burton, Ness, McIvor, Brown, Grieve, Bayne, Svetoslavov, Redhead, Lyon, Shek, Paton, Hynd, Wilson, Passmore

Muchty kicked off with attacking intent and were causing pressure in the box. An East Fife defender passed it back to their keeper who hesitated on the ball and Redhead took advantage of the confusion to rob the keeper and tap the ball in to the net inside the first minute - a great start for the away side.

The Colts again went on the front foot and were passing the ball nicely between themselves and enjoying the bulk of possession. Before long Auchtermuchty were awarded a penalty - Bayne won the ball in midfield and was brought down by a strong challenge, the ref played the advantage as the ball broke to Svetoslavov, who was then brought to the ground - however the ref allowed play to continue as the ball broke to the advancing Ness who drove in to the box where he was felled by an East Fife defender. This time the ref blew for the penalty. Ness dusted himself down and powered the penalty past the keeper for a deserved goal.

The young team from Auchtermuchty were now playing with added confidence as they zipped the football around the defence and midfield to continue the attack on the East Fife goal. Redhead added his second of the day with a shot from inside the area which beat the keeper.

The impressive Redhead then turned provider. Linking up well with McIvor, he drove forward on the left and his cross found Passmore unmarked in the area to slot home. Passmore then doubled his tally as he ran through on goal, one on one with the keeper he quickly shifted the ball between his feet, bamboozling the keeper and passing it in to the net. Fantastic composure from a player who is on an impressive goal scoring streak.

Bayne was next to get on the scoresheet. Driving from the centre of midfield, he played the ball in to Paton who used strength to hold off the East Fife defender and played the ball back to Bayne who played a cool finish in to the back of the net.

In to the second half and Muchty continued to press. Shek, on as a substitute was lively going forward and had a shot which was well pushed away by the East Fife keeper. However, with no defender following up, Shek used his instincts to get there first and slot the ball home. It wasn't long until Shek doubled his tally, dribbling in from midfield, he evaded a couple of challenges and drove a great shot at goal which the keeper couldn't hold.

With Muchty pressing forward, there were occasions where the defence were called on, but the impressive Grieve showed calmness and maturity with the ball at his feet and a great range of passing. His defensive partner Brown was equally assured with some great reading of the game, as she blocked a number of passes and her positional play and pressing never allowed East Fife attacks to get momentum.

Hynd and Wilson were playing well down both wings and both were unlucky not to score, on another day they could have troubled the scoresheet. It was the Shek show in the second half though and it wasn't long before he scored his 3rd of the game.

As the clock ticked on Lyon was doing well closing down the play from left back. He then played a ball through for Bayne who ran through and slotted under the keeper to round off the scoring as the ref blew for full time shortly after.

It was a very impressive performance from the young team from Muchty. The performances have been improving week and it's great to see everyone enjoying their football and getting their rewards for their hard work in training.

The players now head in to the international break and their next game is at home against Glenrothes Strollers on Saturday 23rd October.

We'd like to thank East Fife and today's referee and wish them well for the season ahead.
