Bellvue Colts field 7 new players for the season start

New season anticipation peaked for all involved with the 2011 Colts as they travelled to Glenrothes to play Rothes Juniors in the first competitive match of season 22-23.
With several changes in the squad from the previous season ‘Muchty were keen from the off to make a good start in this campaign.

Squad: Sinclair, MacDougall (C), Tavener, Readhead, Johnstone, Ness, McAuley, Lambie, Shek, Jack, Green & Donaldson

Right from the kick off ‘Muchty demonstrated their eagerness to take the game to their opponents with some creative play on the right from McAuley and Shek. Chance after chance was created and the ball just would not go into the net. Taverner and Redhead looked commanding in central defence with Ness holding the midfield as ‘Muchty continued to look strong. New debutants Johnstone and Lambie worked the left side and pushed towards the attack. All was going well for the away side until a long distance shot from Rothes squeezed between the hands of our keeper.

This didn’t affect ‘Muchty as they continued with the same determination and patience. ‘Muchty won a series of corners but these were well defended by Rothes. With the first half clock running it’s final minutes ‘Muchty earned a free kick just outside the box. Up stepped Tavener with a text book strike that nestled high in the roof of the net. A perfect way to end the first half.

Second half, ‘Muchty now with the wind behind them, continued to keep their shape and work hard with Jack, Green and Donaldson now on the pitch, making their debuts for the club. With more good play coming down the right with MacDougall and McAuley, it looked like Colts could make a breakthrough down that side. When it did come, it was the impressive Redhead who brought the ball out from the back, went past two defenders on the right hand side and picked out Shek who placed well past the Rothes keeper.

Rothes began to look keen to re-assert themselves but ‘Muchty stood defence stood firm and were looking dangerous on the counter attack. Late in the game Colts were awarded a corner on the left and debutant Lambie stepped up and noticing a space at the front post, managed to curl it directly in to the net.

A 10 minute downpour couldn’t even distract ‘Muchty and as Rothes continued to press, the defence stood firm.

It was a great performance from all players who are showing a great team spirit from the short time they have been together. Our thanks to Rothes Juniors for a great game played in a great spirit and we wish them well for the season ahead.
