Football back in Auchtermuchty after 4 away games for 2010's

After a run of 4 away games, it was back to Auchtermuchty for the youths of Colts 2010's as they welcomed AM to Low Road Park.

Squad: Burton, MacDougall, Grieve, Brown, McIver, Bayne, Shek, Wilson, Passmore, Smith, Hynd, Tavener, Redhead & Svetoslavov

Playing towards the Pavillion end, it was Colts who made the early running, closing the ball down quickly and creating pressure on the AM backline. MacDougall and Passmore were linking up well down the right, with the latter hitting the side netting with a shot from the angle.

Colts were not letting AM get time on the ball, with Bayne in particular showing grit and determination to win the ball at every opportunity. The AM goal was leading a charmed life at this point with Passmore again being a threat and twice saw efforts hit the outside of the post.

The breakthrough for Colts came and it was Passmore who got his name on the scoresheet when the ball broke to him in space in the centre of the box he scooped it over the advancing keeper and in to the net.

Colts were still alert to the danger AM possessed and after some nice play down the right, the ball ricocheted off Grieve and was heading in to the net, only for Burton to put out a hand and turn it around the post. AM were starting to press up the right hand side, with McIvor displaying good strength at the back to snuff out the danger on a number of occasions.

Bayne then turned provider after breaking up an AM attack, he fed the ball in to Shek who ran in and scored with a superb low drive. AM then went on the attack and a shot from the left struck the outside base of Burton's post and went wide.

As the game ticked down towards half time, a through ball sent an AM striker clear on goal, with Burton rushing out the striker played it around him and with the goal gaping he was thwarted by an excellent tracking run MacDougall who showed good strength to get in front of the striker and cleared to safety.

The second half brought some changes in personnel from Colts, but the intensity of the play remained the same as they went off again on the front foot. Redhead was instrumental in a lot of the play going forward and was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. Hynd was also causing problems down the right hand side as Colts forced a couple of corners which ultimately came to nothing.

Brown and Grieve again were looking assured in defence with some good tackling and simple passing through to the midfield. Another goal was coming though and when it did it was a thundering long range shot from Svetoslavov, who after collecting a loose ball in midfield, took a touch to get the ball out of his feet and unleashed an unstoppable powerful shot which ripped in to the net.

Svetoslavov was keen for more and when Redhead was fouled outside the box, it was him who took charge and smashed the free kick off the cross bar, with the rebound falling to safety. Muchty were continuing to press forward and Smith, Tavener and Hynd were unlucky not to beat the keeper on different occasions. It wasn't long though before the next goal came with the ball pinging about the box it fell to Svetoslavov who fired home from close range.

AM kept pressing in to the final stages and got their reward when, from a corner, MacDougall cleared the ball, as the cross came back in, it hit MacDougall's arm from close range and the referee awarded a penalty. Despite a strong hand from keeper Burton, it the penalty was too strong as it hit the back of the net.

The full time whistle sounded not long afterward to the joy of the Colts players. It was another strong performance from all of the players and everyone played their part in a great team effort.

Next up for Muchty is an away match against East Fife on Saturday 2nd October - 10am kick off.

We would like to thank the AM Soccer players and referee for a good game and wish them well for the season ahead.
